5 Common mistakes that new clothing lines make

Hi future models. In this email I am going to tell you five common mistakes that people make when starting a clothing line. Understanding the mistakes made by others will help you to avoid them and get it right the first time.
1. Selling to no oneA common mistake when starting a clothing line is to try and appeal to everyone, however with this approach you are appealing to no one. There have been many clothing companies  who have rushed into designing and producing products without giving any thought to who they are selling their products to. To avoid this mistake you will need to think about who you are designing your clothes for and what styles get their attention.

2. Not working in synchronization to stores

If you want your clothing to find its way onto the rails of stores then you need to understand how stores work and when they are ordering stock. You should understand when and how to approach retailers to successfully get your clothing into stores.

3. Discouraged by lack of artistic skills

Some people dream of starting their own clothing line but are discouraged by the fact that they cannot draw to design clothing. You do not need to be artistic or even know how to sew to start your own clothing line. There are many people who run a clothing brand without ever having created a design. How this is done is by outsourcing to fashion designers with your ideas.

4. Mass producing your own clothing

Just like any business, when starting a clothing company you do not have to do every single aspect of it yourself. Some people have the misconception that they will have to mass produce their own clothing when this is usually contracted out to the appropriate manufacture.
5. Trying out too many different styles
There are many new clothing companies that try to broaden the styles in their range in an attempt to appeal to different groups of people. This causes confusion to what your brand is about and what you do. The start up clothing brands that make the most impact are those with a solid consistency in their range.
